Heritage Center Museum II is located at 133 North Main Street and is housed in the first hardware store in Hay Springs. It includes a special room displaying mementos of Mari Sandoz.
Mari (1901-1966) is arguably the most renowned author of the area. ‘Old Jules’, probably the most well known of her works, tells the story of her father’s life as a locator and Sheridan County pioneer. If you are interested in area history this is a must read. Other books authored by Mari include ‘Cheyenne Autumn’, ‘Crazy Horse: The Strange Man of the Oglalas’, ‘Slogum House, and ‘These were the Sioux’ just to name a few.
